New Publication featuring Erica Dove
PhD Student Erica Dove published a new paper in the official journal of the Gerontological Society of America (The Gerontologist) titled ‘Can Automated Vehicles Be Useful to Persons Living With Dementia? The Perspectives of Care Partners of People Living With Dementia’ which examines the effects of driving cessation following a diagnosis of dementia on patients’ mental wellbeing, as well as its effects on caregivers’ independence. It then explores the acceptance of automated vehicles as alternative modes of transportation by both patients and caregivers by looking at factors such as perceived safety, trust and desire to use.
This research is important for understanding the features required for planning accessible modes of transportation for persons with dementia to enhance autonomy and can help inform future research in automated transportation design.
