Congratulations Team!

Here at the DATE Lab we recognize and welcome staff and students that come from a wide variety of backgrounds such as occupational therapy, geriatric care, neurosciences, public health and kinesiology. Additionally, we recognize the great achievement it is to obtain a publication in a journal for their hard work!

This month, we congratulate PhD student Erica Dove (in collaboration with Dr. Astell) for her publication in the Alzheimer's & Dementia Journal. The article entitled ‘Improving movement confidence of people with dementia using gaming’, is based on work conducted for her PhD thesis. It discusses how people living with dementia have an increased risk of falls and examines how playing a digital bowling game can help reduce these risks.

In addition to celebrating current lab members, we recognize the hard work accomplished by former students and trainees during their time in the lab. Congratulation to Maria Acenas and Sukriti Sachdev (2020 HMB student) for their publication entitled ‘Engaging cognitive domains of people with dementia during tablet game play’ . This project discusses the use of digital games such as tablets for individuals with dementia and how these present an opportunity for efficient yet low cost cognitive activities for this population.
